Pilot Project 13: Socioeconomic Disparities in Women's Health in the U.S.: Investigating Early and Midlife Determinants of Mortality
Principal Investigator: Melissa Hardy (Penn State). Co-investigators: Eliza Pavalko (Indiana University), Eileen Crimmins (USC), and David Almeida (Penn State)
Specific Aims
The aims of this pilot project are to: (1) develop a proposal to fund the addition of cause of death information for sample members of the National Longitudinal Study of Women (NLSW) who have died; (2) perform a comparative analysis of the same birth cohorts in the NLSW and the HRS/CODA/AHEAD to demonstrate the utility of the late adolescence/early and middle adulthood information for predicting health trajectories and mortality; (3) begin the development of a survey instrument to reinterview the NLSW and better address issues of health, including cognitive function, and health behaviors for surviving respondents; and (4) build a consortium of interested researchers across existing demography of aging centers to continue data collection for the NLSW.
