PRI Data Archive

The PRI Data Archive collects demographic data for PRI faculty and student use. Data Archive staff assist PRI researchers in identifying and accessing data for population research. Data consultation is available to Penn State researchers who are not affiliated with PRI through the Social Science Research Institute, and some datasets in our collections are available to any qualified researcher.

DATA COLLECTIONS AND RESOURCES

Our collection is distributed across both Windows and UNIX networks (electronic files), and we have a substantial circulating collection of CD/DVD-ROMs and hardcopy documentation. When updates are made to our collection, they are announced on the Data Archive Updates Web page.

The Data Archive also maintains information about data resources outside of PRI.

SERVICES

A variety of services, including reference, instruction, and assistance obtaining public and restricted data, are available to PRI affiliates.

Other Penn State researchers may request consultation through the Social Science Research Institute.

GETTING HELP

Data Archive staff conduct workshops through the PRI Workshop Series. In addition, PRI faculty and students may request help in identifying and accessing appropriate data sets for research.

Every research project utilizing secondary data must be reviewed by Penn State's Office for Research Protections. Please see our overview of the requirements for using secondary data at Penn State before starting your project. If you do not get approval, you will not be able to publish or present your work.

For more information about services, or to make a request, contact the data archivist.
