DIALOG-PLUS Project
In early September, Dr. Stephen Matthews, senior research associate; associate professor of geography, demography, and sociology; and director of the GIA Core, made a presentation on race/ethnicity in the US as part of the DIALOG-PLUS project via ACCESS-GRID (Internet) at an Assisted Learning Technologies conference in Sheffield, UK. A Penn State Team (Matthews and David DiBiase) made presentations to/with colleagues at Leeds University (Phil Rees, Helen Durham, Louise MacKay) via the GRID (Internet) from Penn State's Computer Building as part of a demonstration session at the conference. This presentation and interactive discussion was organized by David Pilsbury of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) as a demonstration of new technologies to facilitate multi-site collaboration.
2003 National Symposium on Family Issues
The eleventh annual National Symposium on Family Issues, entitled "Creating the Next Generation: Social, Economic, and Psychological Processes Underlying Fertility in Developed Countries," was held October 9-10, 2003. Lead speakers were S. Philip Morgan, Duke University; Jennifer Barber and William Axinn, University of Michigan; Elizabeth Thomson, University of Wisconsin; Christine Bachrach, National Institute of Child Health and Development; Lynn White, University of Nebraska; and Daniel Lichter, Ohio State University.
The 2004 Symposium will be entitled Romance and Sex: Understanding Adolescent and Young Adult Relationships. Further details will appear on the National Symposium on Family Issues home page.
