Grants and Fellowships
- The Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC)
of the National Cancer Institute is accepting applications for
the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program. The purpose of this
program is to train individuals from a multiplicity of health
science disciplines in the field of cancer prevention and control.
The program provides for (1) Master of Public Health training at
accredited university programs, (2) participation in the DCPC
Cancer Prevention and Control Academic Summer Course, (3) working
at DCPC with individual preceptors on cancer prevention and
control projects, and (4) brief field assignments in cancer
prevention and control programs at other institutions. Funding
permitting, Fellows will be accepted for up to three years of
training, beginning July 1, 1996. Benefits include selected
relocation and travel expenses, paid federal holidays, and
participatory health insurance. Applications are due September 1,

- The Institute of Population Research at Peking University
announces two post-doctoral positions with full fellowship open to
Chinese citizens who recently received or will receive a Ph.D.
degree in China or other countries. Another post-doctoral position
is open to citizens from other countries than China, and the
applicants for this position should try to obtain a fellowship
from an international or their own countries' financial resources.

- The Center for Population and Development Studies at
Harvard University invites applications for its fellowship
program which offers the opportunity to a small number of persons
from around the world to study at the Center in a flexible yet
intensive fellowship program. The fellowships have been created
for research scholars, managers, and policy-makers in academic,
public, or non-governmental institutions to help strengthen
technical understanding, enhance analytical skills, increase
managerial and decision-making competence, and further develop
ethical sensitivities and leadership capabilities in the field of
population and development. Candidates should possess a strong
record of academic training and practical experience, demonstrated
commitment to population and development problem-solving, and
promise for scholarly or operational leadership. Applications must
include c.v., 3-5 page workplan, two letters of recommendation,
and writing sample. Application deadline for the 1996-1997
academic year is January 30, 1996. The program is able to
provide limited financial support to only a few fellows, so
applicants are strongly encouraged to seek independent sources of
