PAA Winners Announced at Annual Meeting
Charles Westoff of Princeton University was the 1995
winner of the Irene Taeuber Award for Excellence in
Demographic Research. This award is given biennially
in recognition of an accumulated record of
exceptionally sound and innovative research. Donald J.
Bogue, emeritus professor of Sociology from the
University of Chicago received the 1995 Robert J Lapham
Award in recognition of his contributions that blend
research with the application of demographic knowledge
to policy issues. This year's winner of the Dorothy S.
Thomas Award was Narayan Sastry for his paper entitled
"Community Characteristics, Individual and Household
Attributes, and Child Survival in Brazil." This work
was completed at Princeton University. Dr. Sastry is
now on a post-doctoral fellowship at the Rand
Corporation. Two poster competitions occurred this
year to reflect the expanded number of posters accepted
at this year's meeting. Six prizes were awarded in
total.
