Hallie J. Kintner, GM Research Labs, received the Charles L. McCuen Special Achievement Award for developing The Bill of Materials Workload Model. This model quantifies the workload for various disciplines in the product development process for motor vehicles, and is now a key tool in General Motors' planning process.

Daniel Joseph Hogan, President of the Brazilian Population Studies Association, was recently appointed to the new National Commission on Population and Development by President Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The Commission was created as part of Brazil's followup activities to the International Conference on Population and Development held in Cairo in 1994. The Commission, headed by demographer Elza Berquo, has as its principal goals raising awareness concerning population matters in Brazilian society, and in government in particular and promoting the integration of population questions in all aspects of government planning.

John L. Goodman, Jr. has moved to the National Multi Housing Council, where he is Vice President of Research. Jack previously was Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Board. His new email address is jgoodman@nmhc.org .

Bob Weller, NIH Scientific Review Administrator for the Social Sciences and Population review group, wants you to know that projects involving secondary data analyses are considered to involve human subjects. Joseph Salvo, Director of the Population Division of the NYC Department of City Planning, was awarded a 1995 Sloan Public Service Award by the Fund for the City of New York. He was described as our city's hidden treasure.
