1997 PAA Meeting Coincides with Easter Weekend

The PAA's officers recently learned that the dates for the 1997 annual meeting, March 2729, coincide with Easter weekend. The 1997 meeting was originally scheduled for the week of March 17, but records in the PAA office indicate that the dates were changed in 1993 at a request from the Hyatt and agreed to by the PAA office shortly after Jen Suter resigned from the Executive Administrator position. No record that this change was approved by the Board or the officers of the Association has been found; certainly, when the dates were chosen in 1992, it was Jen Suter's and the Board's intent to avoid the Easter weekend. Although this will not be the first time that PAA has met during Easter, the PAA officers were distressed to learn of the date change. At their request, the Hyatt was contacted and the situation explained to them, but they were unable to respond; finding an alternative meeting site was also impossible at this late date. The officers of the PAA apologize to the membership for this regrettable situation. The 1997 Organizing Committee will try to accommodate the needs of members as best they can. Any suggestions about scheduling adjustments should be conveyed to the chair of the Organizing Committee, Karen Oppenheim Mason, who can be reached via email at masonk@hawaii.edu and via fax at 808.944.7490.
