The Northwestern University / University of Chicago, Joint Center for Poverty Research announces its Visiting Scholars Program, for untenured or junior researchers who have completed their PhDs. Each of the two campuses, the U of Chicago and Northwestern U, will have one such Visiting Scholar in residence. Candidates are invited to express a preference for one of the two universities. Applicants must be actively involved in research directly relevant to poverty in the United States. Preference will be given to scholars who can spend an entire academic year in residence, and who can particularly benefit from interaction with the affiliated faculty in one or both of the two universities involved. Maximum salary available is $40,000 for the academic year, plus benefits and some research support; as this is a research appointment, there is no teaching requirement. fellowship application, an applicant must arrange

training experience. Predoctoral applicants must
be enrolled in a program leading to a research
doctorate such as the PhD or DSc by the proposed
fellowship activation date. Research training
applied toward preparation of a dissertation is
permitted. Up to five years of support can be
considered with adequate justification. The

The Population Studies Center, University of Pennsylvania has an opening for a postdoctoral student in the demography of aging to begin approximately May 1997. The postdoctoral training program is intended to enhance the skills of fellows in demography and related disciplines, to expose them to major research issues in aging, and to assist them in developing and pursuing a research agenda.
