opportunity for scholars in child and family studies. Established PhDs are
invited to spend the summer working in Washington at Child Trends. Moving
expenses and a modest stipend are provided, and basic salary and benefits

- The Population Division of the U.S. Census Bureau has openings
in its domestic and international programs for qualified individuals in
the areas of demography, sociology, geography, related social sciences,
and computer systems.The division covers a wide variety of programs including:
Estimates and Projections of the Population, Administrative Records research,
Current Surveys (e.g., CPS, SPD, SIPP), and the Decennial Census. The Population
Division also has openings in its International Programs Center, which
is responsible for providing a variety of demographic programs and services
abroad as well as producing demographic estimates and projections for all
countries of the world (excluding the United States). We seek individuals
at all levels (BA, MA, or PhD) who are self- starters and highly motivated
with excellent analytical, quantitative, computer literacy, and communication

- International consulting firm seeks seasoned midlevel technical
staff member for USAID sponsored population/reproductive health project
to serve as Deputy Project Director: supervise and coordinate consulting
assignments for population related program designs and evaluations; recruit
appropriate consultants; and provide technical input on project publications
and information dissemi-nation strategies. MPH or MA degree in related
field required. Approximately ten years experience in the fields of international
population/family planning or reproductive health care, including several
years of managing activities funded by USAID. Knowledge of US contracting

- The Office of Population Research, Princeton University, seeks
a manager of computing services for immediate appointment. The manager
has primary responsibility for maintaining stateoftheart
computing facilities in a center housing some sixty faculty, researchers,
staff, and students, and supervises a staff consisting of a systems administrator
and two programmers. The successful candidate will have a college degree
(master's preferred) in social science or statistics, a strong technical
computing background, and at least five years of experience providing computing

- The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program is seeking
a Frenchspeaking sampling statistician. The position involves
evaluating sampling frames; designing and selecting samples; preparing
technical reports; training household listing staff; and calculating weights
and sampling errors. Approximately 30% of time will be spent overseas,
esp. in Francophone Africa, but also Anglophone Africa, Asia, and the Middle

- Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID) seeks
associates in the economics of international development and transition
economies. Positions are for terms of up to five years and involve work
in Cambridge and in HIID projects overseas. HIID associates play a leading
role in research, teaching, policy advising and management of overseas
projects. Associates have some flexibility in allocating their time among
these activities, and are responsible for transmitting field experience
to the Harvard community and involving Harvard faculty in Institute projects.
Associates are expected to travel and/or reside overseas in connection
with their responsibilities. Applicants are required to have a PhD in a
field of economics or public policy. We are particularly interested in
candidates with a background in macro economics, micro finance, money and
banking, financial development, trade and industry, labor, gender, the
economics of education, health and the environment. It is desirable to

- The Ford Foundation is hiring a Program Officer in Reproductive
Health and Population to work in Nigeria. The individual will have
primary responsibility for designing, implementing, monitor-ingand evaluating
program activities in reproductive health and sexuality. The Program Officer
will work closely with African professionals engaged in research, training,
and management, based in institutions of government, at universities and
in non-governmental organizations. A demonstrated understanding of reproductive
health issues is required, as is substantial experience in developing countries,
a graduate degree in a health-related social science, and the ability to

- The College of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University,
Oregon, seeks applicants for the position of Director of the Center
for Population Research and Census (CPRC) to begin July 1. This is
a 12month tenuretrack acade-mic appointment. The College includes
Master's and PhD programs and research centers in urban studies, aging,
political science and public health. CPRC conducts research on population
trends in Oregon, produces official population estimates for jurisdictions,
and is the lead agency for the Census State Data Center Program. The staff
consists of five research associates, office support, and student interns.
Responsibilities include management and supervision of programs and staff
and gaining external support for research. A PhD in an appropriate social
science field, with a specialization in demography, is required. The successful
candidate will possess expertise in demographic, statistical, and survey
research methods; familiarity with Census Bureau products and services;
excellent communication skills, ability to establish contacts with public
and private interests; conduct communitybased research; promote cooperation
with other research institutes, teach graduatelevel courses, and contribute
