Fellowships and Grants



The Center for Demographic Studies, Duke University, invites applications for two NIA/NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowships to pursue research in the social and medical demography of aging. Holders of NIH fellowships must be US citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must have completed their PhD in Demography, Sociology, Economics, or a related Social Science prior to appointment. Applicants holding doctoral degrees in Statistics, Public Health, or Medicine are also encouraged to apply. Applicants need not have an extensive background in research on aging but may be developing new areas of research concentration by working with established investigators in the Demography of Aging and Medical Demography. It is expected the applicant will select a faculty member with whom to coordinate his or her research activities. Applicants should apply by July 1 for a fall semester 1998 appointment. Appointments are for 12 to 24 months. The Department of Population Dynamics, Johns Hopkins University, is accepting applications for two NIA postdoctoral fellowships. Indiana University's Anthropological Center for Training and Research on Global Environmental Change (ACT) is seeking applications for a postdoctoral fellow in population and the environment who will integrate demographic research with land-use dimensions of environmental change. This is an NIH-funded position, contingent on continuation of the award for two additional years. Postdoctoral fellowships are renewable annually following a review of performance. A PhD in demography, sociology, or anthropology is required. Understanding of relational databases, multivariate analysis, spatial statistics, and GIS are desirable. The Department of Population and International Health at the Harvard School of Public Health announces an opening for a Mellon postdoctoral fellow in anthropological demography.
