Georgetown Establishes Institute for the Study of International Migration
In January 1998, Georgetown University established the
Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM). ISIM seeks to
expand understanding of migration issues through its research, policy studies,
convenings, and teaching. The Institute focuses on all aspects of international
migration, including the causes of and potential responses to population
movements, immigration and refugee law and policy, comparative migration
studies, the integration of immigrants into host societies, and the effects
of international migration on social, economic, foreign policy, and security
concerns. ISIM is a joint undertaking of Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign
Service, the Law School, and the Department of Demography on campus; and
is seeking partners for a consortium of centers with an interest in immigration
issues. Susan Martin is the Executive Director and Andy Schoenholtz is
Director of Law and Policy Studies. Lindsay Lowell serves as Director of
Research. Affiliated faculty includes Charles B. Keely, Chair of Georgetown's
Demography Department and Herzberg Professor of International Migration.
