APLCI-I Union List of Serials

                            Introduction
                                   
     Included Titles
     
     All of the titles reported by each participating
     institution (with one exception) were included in this
     publication, with no editorial attempt to limit
     listings to those titles directly relating to
     population/ family planning.  The single exception is
     the World Bank Sectoral Library listings, which
     included the holdings of all of the various World Bank
     Sectoral libraries.  In that case, only the serials
     from those libraries with a focus somewhat relevant to
     population and family planning (the public health,
     education, and environmental libraries, for instance)
     were included.
     
     
     Form of Entry
     
     The bibliographic and publisher data is drawn primarily
     from information provided by the libraries themselves,
     and its content and completeness was left somewhat to
     their discretion.  Where practical, additional
     bibliographic and publisher information was drawn from
     additional sources, but with a listing so large and
     diverse, such "filling in" could only be done for a
     small percentage of titles.
     
     Likewise, an attempt has been made to standardize the
     format of title entries under the most commonly used
     version of the title, with cross references where
     appropriate.  Thus, proceedings of conferences,
     government publications, and society or institutional
     publications may be entered under the title of the
     serial or that of the issuing body.
     
     
     Arrangement of Entries  
     
     The entries are filed alphabetically.  Initialisms and
     acronyms at the beginning of an entry, e.g. "U.S." or
     "UNICEF", are treated as a word and filed accordingly,
     with periods being disregarded.  Entries beginning with
     numbers are filed as if the number were spelled out,
     i.e. "1994" is filed as "Nineteen ninety four".  For
     the purposes of filing, "&" is treated as "and". 
     Initial articles (where they are recognized as such)
     are included in the title but ignored for the purposes
     of sorting.
     
     
     Entry Format
     
     Except for cross references, each entry consists of as
     much of the following information as was available: 
     
          main entry
          name of the issuing body and the publisher
               (if distinct) in parentheses
          place of publication
          ISSN number
          beginning and ending dates
          special notes 
          contact address for subscriptions or for the
               publisher or issuing body 
          holdings of individual institutions  (A "*" in the
               holdings indicates incomplete holdings, brackets
               [] indicate holdings in storage)
