- The labs currently use desktop and laptop computers, as well as a servers for internet map serving and a RAID array for file storage and backup all connected to the SSRI's PopNet. These computers are used primarily by GIA staff, but are also available to any SSRI member who needs to extract data from one of our CD-ROM Data sets or to conduct a digitizing session or other GIS work.
- A high quality color printer and 2 HP LaserJet printers are also available. Printing is possible on multiple media types.
- A Microtex 6000 high resolution scanner is also available to facilitate specific GIS methods. Scanned map products are used to aid in locator map production and processing of data collected in field research activities. Scanning is also a good method to produce a basis for input of new features by means of heads up digitizing.
- 8 Garmin Etrex Venture GPS units are available for researchers collecting geographic data in the field. GPS units are a good way to get locations for data which can then be easily mapped in any GIS software.
