Dr. Pamela Farley Short
Professor of Health Policy and Administration
Director, Center for Health Care and Policy Research (CHCPR)
Pamela Farley Short received her Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and specializes in the economics of health and health care. Before joining the faculty of Penn State in 1997, Dr. Short was a Senior Economist in the Washington office of RAND and Director of RAND's Center for the Study of Employee Health Benefits. For a number of years, Dr. Short was a senior manager in the intramural research program of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Short also worked in the White House for the Council of Economic Advisors as the senior staff economist for health care issues. She is particularly well known for her expertise regarding the uninsured and underinsured, and much of her research is concerned with the financing of health care through public and private insurance. Dr. Short is a member of Penn State's interdisciplinary demography faculty whose work emphasizes the study of changes in individuals' lives over time, currently with special attention to movement in and out of health insurance programs, retirement and employment transitions, and the unfolding experiences of cancer survivors.
Deborah Roempke Graefe
Research Associate, Population Research Institute
Dr. Deborah Roempke Graefe is a social demographer at Penn State. Her research focuses on family life course transitions in diverse contexts and government policy pertaining to the well being of family members. In addition to her interest in family health issues, her research focuses on welfare reform and family demographic processes, including migration and family formation among immigrants and low-income women. Dr. Graefe received her Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from The Pennsylvania State University in 2000.
Don Gensimore
Programmer/Analyst, Population Research Institute
Don Gensimore is a programmer/analyst for the Population Research Institute where he provides computer programming assistance for complex data construction and analysis projects. In addition, he constructs web pages that provide user-friendly interactive data services.
Jeanne Spicer
Manager, Data Management and Programming Services, Social Science Research Institute and Population Research Institute
Jeanne Spicer oversees all aspects of data development and management and programming services for Penn State's Social Sciences Research Institute. These services involve high-level computer programming to combine and modify datasets and impute missing data; the design and maintenance of databases; the maintenance of security measure for sensitive data; the development of technology-based data collection systems; the generation of technical documentation and codebooks for in-house and public release data; and the design and maintenance of project web sites.
