Two Co-Edit Book on 'Intergenerational Caregiving'
Press Release - November 11, 2008
Alan Booth, distinguished professor of sociology, demography, and family studies, and Ann C. Crouter, dean of the College of Human Development, have co-edited a book along with Suzanne M. Bianchi, University of Maryland, and Judith A. Seltzer, UCLA. Intergenerational Caregiving, published by Urban Institute Press, is based on the 14th annual Penn State Symposium on Family Issues.
Dramatic changes in American families over the past half century have transformed the nature of intergenerational relationships. Nuclear families have become smaller as fertility has declined, but extended families have become larger with gains in life expectancy leading to more multi-generational families. In Intergenerational Caregiving, a interdisciplinary group of scholars considers changing family relationships.
